The aesthetics of maneuvering clothing and styling of the 21st century fashion has thus, become verbal and modish in the most ethnic sense from crafts and art with all fashion styles under one canopy of faddism. The ancient techniques of fabrications, themes, prints, art and crafts have inspired the beauteous minds of fashion and elevated the diverse range of designs and patterns. India with its wonderful ethnicity and originality provides inspiration for various fashion themes from its gorgeous artistic and classical places. Known for its cultural heritage, elegance and colorfulness, Indian fashion is not only comfortable, sophisticated but also is artistically beautiful. Recreating the effect of the art on the walls and pillars with floral motifs, the blue art of batik, tribal prints for the bohemian style of dressing, the lotus motifs and colors and the tie and dye bandhani has derived inspiration from real places reviving new trends from the rich places of India.
The elite luxury of portraying casual beauty of fashion has immensely changed with new-age fashion-minded folks only to give way to ruffles, florals, embellishments, loud prints and bold colors from hand embroidery to shimmers circling in the women trends and athleisure with oversized tees, joggers, bowling shirts, commando shoes or androgynous fashion styles in the men section. Fashion trends define periods of time with each decade having its own distinctive trends molded by the current affairs of the time. Dating back to the Mohenjo-Daro civilization where the earliest preliminary version of a woman wearing a piece of cloth around her torso with heavy jewelry, the Vedic literature stating the existence of Phataka made from leaves and barks, the Rigveda stating the existence of Paridhan (dyed) and Pesas (embroidered) garments traces the development of refined fabricating techniques of apparels with cosmopolitan fashion paving the way for new fashion trends. Vivid colors and dramatic silhouettes drive us in spotting fashion and shape our guise deeming us beautiful in all mannerism of sexuality making today a genderfluid era with fashion redefining our world through a prism of fluidity.
Fashion is not just a means of draping clothes on your body; it is the essence of your personality and beliefs that shape our personal styles and define our fashion statements. The key to create a roadmap to style is through acceptance of who we are. Clothes construct a narrative that builds our confidence and helps us pick our styles or go crazy with our fashion picks. Clothes are the raw materials to your chic convention of adorning. It weaves around our bodies and glorifies our demeanor. Nowadays, fashion stands bold and daring giving us a clear window to curate trends of today in our own individual styles and introduce comfortability, grace and a dash of glimmer in our lives. What we wear fabricates a story of who we are and who we want to be! Fashion is a powerful tool where; we wear clothes to tell a story or make a statement. Adding symbolic or iconic pieces to our outfits can add some meaning and help us break the rotten stereotypical norms of the society.
Contemporary fashion has always veiled the word ‘Beauty’ where the discussions have always reflected on the evolution of beauty throughout history. The industry has shifted its focus from leaner models to models ranging in size, shape, height, skin color and facial features. The definition of beauty expands to the wonderful people of today united at heart and being their own selves because fashion is embedded not only on our sleeves but deep in our souls. We touch styles with the tip of our fingertips and twirl them with our own uniqueness into a beautiful attire that calms our sense of faddism and gives our characters’ true feelings to maintain and experiment fashion no matter what body shape we are, what color we adorn ourselves in or what our facial features are, fashion is open to all. The people of color, size, age, nationality now know no bounds and each carry their own air of individualism. The diversity and acceptance of beauty coincides well with the fashion industry which is a global platform as people from all over the world work in fashion. The life cycle of the fashion industry can be truly diverse; the conceptualizing of different genres of clothing, accessories, footwear to help us fit in with the people around us and follow the trend cycle but it’s up to us to ride along the herd mentality or be our own individualistic.
Recognizing one’s individuality is a means to self-expression. Each day is an opportunity to embrace our personalities through our styles; be it any color, clothing or a type of style that we like, our fashion choices affect our sense of expression. The visual representation of our individualistic styles is permeating the human culture and it speaks volumes of who we are and what we are trying to be in this world full of uniqueness. Fashion is tool of communication where we can be verbal of our choices and dress not only to impress but to bring out the creativity and of course to be comfortable in our own skin. With the trends changing fast the need to experiment has escalated and the western, indo-western, ethnic or chic and casuals have overpowered today’s fad with a fancy approach. Fashion is just a piece of clothing until we touch it, add color to it and embrace it. It’s a form of escapism where it’s a therapy to most of us and we dress to escape from the daily nuisances and create a wall of urbanity around us because in the realm of fashion there are no rules. Fashion is freedom where we all our free to express ourselves and bring out our creativity with no restraints thus, fashion is a revolution to reinvent ways of the past and enjoy fashion through a social revolution.
